Questions to guide working group discussions
- What is the rationale for regional research organisations in Africa? What problems do they address, and to what extent have they provided an adequate response to these problems?
- How well have regional research organisations performed? What has been learned from successes and failures? (consider examples) What are the principal constraints on performance?
- How can links to national and global research organisations be strengthened? How can coordination be improved to prevent duplication of efforts?
- How can the results of regional research programmes be better disseminated?
- What is the likely future of regional research organisations?
- What are the implications for development strategies, and what do donors need to do differently?
These questions illustrate the range of issues that could be addressed by the working groups. While they should not be considered to be the only issues that may be discussed, and participants are at liberty to raise others that fall within the scope of the working groups, presenters are asked to consider giving priority to some of these questions.
Please note that all working groups are asked to consider: What are the implications for development strategies, and what do donors need to do differently?
