The role of African regional organisations in tackling transboundary problems

Resource people will be asked to present examples of African regional organisations working to solve transboundary problems (e.g. cross border infrastructure, trade, disease control, environmental problems etc.). For each case the following questions may be addressed:
- What are the reasons for the success or failure of the initiative?
- To what extent were the organisational structures and relationships suited to addressing the problem?
- What was the importance of donor support, and could this have been provided in a more effective way?
- What are the lessons learned for future initiatives?
- What are the implications for development strategies, and what do donors need to do differently?
These questions illustrate the range of issues that could be addressed by the working groups. While they should not be considered to be the only issues that may be discussed, and participants are at liberty to raise others that fall within the scope of the working groups, presenters are asked to consider giving priority to some of these questions.
Please note that all working groups are asked to consider: What are the implications for development strategies, and what do donors need to do differently?
