Questions to guide working group discussions

• What is the latest evidence on desertification, land degradation and water scarcity trends? To what extent is this linked to climate change or land management practices?
• Do new technologies offer promise in tackling land degradation and water scarcity?
• At the community level what do we know about the types of institutions that are required for sustainable land and water management?
• At the national level what institutions and policies are required for sustainable land and water management?
• Do we have the right international institutions to fight desertification and land degradation and water scarcity?
• What are the implications for development strategies, and what do donors need to do differently?

These questions illustrate the range of issues that could be addressed by the working groups. While they should not be considered to be the only issues that may be discussed, and participants are at liberty to raise others that fall within the scope of the working groups, presenters are asked to consider giving priority to some of these questions.
