Short biographic note
Andrew Dorward has had a varied career in working in development projects, training and research in a range of countries, with a primary focus on Africa. He has long-term interests in the problems and issues affecting the livelihoods of poor members of rural communities in developing countries, in particular problems associated with the interactions of agricultural and other activities in rural economies, with the effects of marketing systems on their ability to increase agricultural productivity, and with risk and uncertainty. These are approached by integrating insights from the new institutional economics, from more traditional farm management and farming systems analysis, from household and rural economy models, and from inter-disciplinary and participative approaches to research and development.
