Short biographic note
Ms. Sonja Bartelt, is currently coordinating the Secretariat of the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development. She has mainly worked on tourism and rural economic development issues in Latin America. She spent three years on the development of Action and Management Plans with multi- and bilateral donors on the application of Ecotourism as a tool for rural poverty reduction in Mexico. Thereby she was closely involved in the establishment of an international network for the harmonisation of ecotourism activities in Latin America. Before she joint the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development as Coordinator of its Secretariat in 2005, her latest assignments were with a German agricultural and environmental research institution where she managed the headquarter office in Berlin. Ms Bartelt holds a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.
