Biographic note

Christoph Kohlmeyer serves as the Head of Division for Rural Development and Global Food Security in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). He is in charge of sector policies for agricultural and rural development and food security including development policy coherence of German and European agricultural and trade policies. At the international level he represents Germany as the National Focal Point and founding Chair of the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development (GDPRD), the National Focal Point for the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the National Focal Point for the Alternative Drug Control Programme of the UN Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) and the National Focal Point for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and serves as the host for the UNCCD Secretariat in Bonn.

Christoph Kohlmeyer startet his professional career as a member of academic staff in a research programme on Integrated Rural Development in the Philippines and Sierra Leone jointly conducted by the Universities of Bonn, Freiburg, Giessen and Göttingen.

The field research for this project brought Christoph Kohlmeyer for two years to the Bondoc Peninsula in the Philippines. Subsequently, he taught Agricultural Economy and Rural Development Planning at the SPRING programme of the Faculty of Spatial Planning, Dortmund University, from where he moved with the support of DAAD for six years to Ghana teaching as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Planning, University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. Prior to his entry in BMZ in November 2000 he served another six years as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Ministry of Rural Development in Benin.

Christoph Kohlmeyer was born in 1953 in Schwäbisch-Hall/Germany. He holds a degree and a PhD in Agriculture. He is married with two daughters. He spends most of his free time at home and in his garden or at the University of Dortmund where he continues to teach Agricultural Policy for Development Planning in the SPRING programme.
